About the Mastodon Matrix Project

Allendale Columbia’s 6th grade Science class is excited to be part of the Mastodon Matrix Project.  This is a Citizen Science Research project, not a lab activity!. The research is an open-ended, educational journey into discovering New York’s Ice Age past (late Pleistocene, 10,000-14,000 year ago). Hopefully, our students will experience what it is like to do scientific research as you look through the matrix and make observations. With the help of Mr. Theuer, we will find the evidence we to reconstruct the Pleistocene environment where this mastodon roamed.  We will take our data and observations, and send it to the Pleistocene reference collection at the Paleontological Research Institution (PRI) for other researchers to further study!  This Blog is our journey through the project.
