Ella and John talk dirt about dirt.

Ella:

I love the MASTODON MATRIX PROJECT in our class! My favorite part was when we were floating the dirt so we can see the organic materials and the rocks. My least favorite part was when we had to categorized the dirt by flora, fauna, rocks, and ??????. Hopefully our class can look closely at the dirt through the microscopes. I LOVE mastodons!
John did some research on other animals that lived during the late Pleistocene:

Full Name: Elasmotherium Caucasicum.
Location: Belgium, Swiss Alps.
Time Period: 30,00 ya, Late Pleistocene.
10 to 12.5 feet long; weight 6,000–7,000 lb;  6.6 ft tall; had 2 horns; thick, long fur, small ears, short legs, and a stocky body. Called the snow shovel.

Full Name: Megaloceros Giganteus.
Location: Belgium, Swiss Alps.
Time Period: 30,00 ya, Late Pleistocene.
6.9 ft tall at the shoulders; had the largest antlers of any known cervid – 12.0 ft from tip to tip and weighing up to 88 lb. weight about 1,200-1,300 lbs.

Full Name: Mammuthus Primigenius
Location: Belgium, Swiss Alps.
Time Period: 30,00 ya, Late Pleistocene.
Between 9 and 11ft. tall; weight about six tons; long, thick fur all over the body, small ears, two giant tusks.

Location: South America.
Time Period: 1 mya, Late Pleistocene
Stood 8 ft. Tall and weighted about 280 lbs. known as the terror bird because it was so big. Amal wings for arms with claws and a huge beak. It at meat.

Time Period: 1 mya, Late Pleistocene.

About 20 ft. Long and weighted 40 tons. One of the largest Land mammals. It’s like an anteater.
